Host families

Open your home to a Katimavik participant

Discover Canada without even leaving your living room!

That’s what Katimavik has to offer if you become a host family for a period of two weeks. We are looking for families who are interested in hosting a Katimavik participant who is presently volunteering in your community.
Here is your chance to get to know a young person aged 17 to 21 from another region of Canada, while introducing them to your way of life!

As part of Katimavik’s learning program, participants must spend 14 days in a host family of the region they are volunteering in, so as to get a better grasp of the regional culture and lifestyle. For some participants, this turns out to be a full-fledged linguistic immersion. This experience will be filled with discoveries for both your family and the participant(s). Your generosity in opening your home to a Katimavik participant is most precious to our organization.

Each family receives a stipend of $10 per day to host a participant.

Adults in a live-in relationship, preferably with dependent teenagers or children, or an individual performing the responsibilities of a parent (single-parent dwellings) are qualified to be billeting families. Homosexual couples are not excluded. People living alone or who are single must be referred.
If you wish to take part in Katimavik’s billeting experience, please check to see if a Katimavik group is in your community. If so, fill in and send the host family application form.

A Katimavik project leader or project coordinator will then get in touch with you to inform you of the dates and other details.

You can also get in touch with the Katimavik regional office serving your province.
