What is a community partner organization?Any non-profit, public or semipublic organization, whether it is a municipal company or an organization with a focus on the community, social needs, the environment or recreational activities, can become a Katimavik community partner organization.
Who are the participants?Canadians aged 17 to 21 who represent the country’s socio-cultural mosaic. Many of them have completed high school, but have not yet begun their college or university studies. While many participants have little professional experience at the outset, they are all eager to learn and experience new cultures and work environments.
In order to be eligible to the program, all candidates must provide a duly completed medical exam form giving them a clean bill of health, as well as a criminal background check.
Once their registration has been confirmed, candidates are selected based on set socio-demographic criteria. Groups are formed so as to proportionally represent all regions. This way, 70% of group members are Anglophones and 30% are Francophones. Male and female participants are equally represented in the group.
Given the nature of the program and the demands of group life in host communities, all participants must comply with behavioural standards established by Katimavik. All participants must comply with these standards, both within the Katimavik house and in the workplace. Failure to do so may result in penalties ranging from a warning to immediate expulsion, depending on the severity of the act.
